Illegal fence installed on my property
Dont do It
I signed my contract for the fence to be installed on April 3, 2018. My contract stated that work would begin in approximately 3-5 weeks and be completed in 1-2 days. My salesman Daniel Petro said the job would be done before we opened our pool mid-May and it would be completed in one long day with a 4 to 6 man crew unless it rained. He added an extra day just in case. The contract also stated I needed to remove my old fence so, at the 3 week mark I removed my old fence and waited after about 4 ½ weeks we called and were given a story about delayed shipments and how they were busy. I was informed that we were set for a June 7 install date this is 12 weeks away not the 3-5 weeks that I bought the contract on.
I called Daniel the salesman and voiced my concerns with the inaccurate information that he gave me during the sales pitch, he informed me to contact his boss Barry Kishter Sales Manager Long Fence, which I did. Barry told me that Daniel should not have given me the original estimate of 3-5 weeks. I contacted Danial about this and he told me that Berry tells him what dates to use. We complained some more and got moved up to May 17 (they claim they always move people up) then Mike Patterson in scheduling called back and said they gave us the wrong date and moved us to May 18. Then the rain came and we were rescheduled for May 21 and from there it all went downhill.
On Monday May 21, a 2 man crew arrived to start on our project when I asked if more people were coming, I was told no it was just them. I inquired about the rest of the supplies and was told they were only setting the poles today. I asked how long the job would take and he tells me about 3-5 days. The 1 to 2 day install was all of the sudden going to take 3-5 days so I called and talked to Mike in scheduling again to complain about the way it was affecting my work schedule and was given the song and dance about the rain (mind you it did not rain the month and a half prior, but they didn’t want to hear that). I was told the Sales manager Barry would call me back in reference to my concerns. I gave Barry 24 hours he never called me so I called Mike back in scheduling to fire Long Fence from the job and had to leave a message on his voice mail. I decided to call Daniel the salesman to let him know about my decision because he was the one that sold the job to me. That is when everything went crazy. Daniel asked me what was wrong, so I told him about my issue and how either Barry or he was lying to me. He instantly went from a calm person to yelling at me about how I better not call him a liar and he then threatened to kick my *** and proceeded to hang up the phone. I waited a few minutes and called him back. Daniel answered but would not listen to me but he gave me a number to long fence and told me to ask for Mike Ritter President of long fence.
I called the number and it was to their call center then I was transferred to Mike’s voice mail. I hung up and immediately called back, I explained to the operator what had happened and I would not accept a voice mail and I would like a supervisor. I was offered Berry but he did not answer, then the operator told me he found Tom Ritter the Director of Divisions. He listened to me and apologized for the situation. He genially seemed to care about the issue and he told me he would check into it and get back to me. About 30 minutes later Mike Ritter president of Long fence called back and apologized. He let me know that Daniel admitted to threating me he allowed me to vent for a few minutes about the issues, then he interrupted me and asked me to stop calling him dude (I was using the word dude as a replacement for other choice words).He stated that I called him dude 7 times and he did not appreciate it. After my scolding from the President he goes into how he just wants to get out there and install my fence. I told him, no thank you but he insisted that I let him work on it. At that point he said that he would call back. 4 hours later I received a call from Long Fence I don’t remember who called to offer me $650 off my $12,424 bill but I still refused and told them to come pick up the uninstalled materials on site and I would pay for the work that had been done.
Today Mark Roberts Field Superintendent came out to my house. He was pleasant and cordial but once again was trying to still sell the job. After telling him no thank you because I refused to let Daniel make a penny in commission from my job, we surveyed the work done he told me he did not handle pricing. I asked him to call his boss and I walked away so he could do his business. I assume that he called Mike Ritter he came back in about 10 minutes with a price that I felt was a little high. He called Mike Ritter back again and we were able to agree on a price for the completed work. I paid Mark, got a receipt, and thanked him for his time. He was the best person I dealt with besides Tom Ritter and the subcontractor that did the work. In case you didn’t know they only have 2 men on staff for fence service work. Most new installs are done by subcontractors, this was only told to me today not when I signed the contract.

My personal opinion is I would not suggest long fence. We explained to long fence that we had 3 very large strong dogs and we needed the strongest fence they had.
They assured us that we were getting the strongest fence and no dogs could get out. Instead they installed extremely flimsy fence which resulted in my dogs being able to pull up the fence making holes to get out. Which then caused a dog fight and we had to put one of our dogs Down. We contacted long fence multiple times asking them to come out and look at it, since it didn’t seem to be the strongest.
After going back and forth with them for close to a month they finally had a sales person come bring us samples of what they said was our fence. It wasn’t. They said they installed a better fence then what they did, as our contract proved it. We asked for the engineer stamp for the fence and they refused to give it to us and said “they honored the contract and did everyThing right” but then happily gave us a quote to fix the fence that they screwed up, with different fence.
Why would we be changing our fence if we have the strongest? We should have went for the first fence company we found but they were more expensive, we now know why.
